About Us

The Kings Ransom Library is a subsidiary of the wonderful Medieval Funtime, located at 1009 Awesome Rd., Emerald, Victoria. You can find us on the map HERE.

The theme park has been running for 17 years, and has been gaining more recognition from enthusiasts who enjoy indulging in the medieval pastimes as a release from the humdrum of every day life in this busy 21st Century.

The Kings Ransom Library was started by some of those enthusiastic people behind the theme park as they had items donated to them. They quickly realised that any artefacts or books which could be traced back to medieval days needed a special place to hold them. Therefore they built the library, which at first held only half a dozen books and a few bits of armor.

Thanks to the extraordinary contributions of several key members, we are now very proud to say that the Library is truly an entity within it's own right. We hold 843 items of considerable historic value, and over 2000 books. Not all of the books were written in the medieval times (that would be truly remarkable, considering the method by which they were produced), but all of the books have intrinsic value - chiefly because of the quality of the information which they hold.

The artefacts have all been traced and their provenance recorded. We are able to verify their authenticity, and our collection is among the best in the world.

Due to the care which is necessary, these items are for the main part, on display under glass. They are all of educational value - although most of the time we find the curiosity / novelty factor is so strong, the education takes place without the students being aware they are learning anything!

Only members and qualified professionals are permitted to borrow the books from the library, and some items are not permitted to leave the library at all. This is necessary for our insurance to be provided.

Bookings for school tours can be made by contacting the Booking Officer  here.

Entry fees to the park include entry to the library.
